I’ve historically been one of
those people that said, “Who cares about privacy? Those of us who follow the
law have nothing to hide.” Well, my
friend, things have changed. While people we elected, namely Congress, used to
make our laws for us, now we are also receiving laws by an oligarchy made up of
rogue judges and “supreme” courts. Today they may have in their database:
meetings of an organization that meets in your country home, made up of gun
owners and 2nd amendment proponents. Perhaps you go out back and
conduct target practice. Perhaps you have another private organization meeting
at your friend’s house that is exclusive to heterosexuals. What if tomorrow the
courts rule that these organizations are illegal, despite the fact that they
are protected by the 1st and 2nd amendments? You are in the database already; they have
your name and number.
While today, I believe that
if you have nothing to hide, you’re fine, tomorrow is a different story. We’re
entering a dangerous chapter in American history, where our liberties are being
stripped of us, as well as our right to govern ourselves democratically. For
the time being, there is information that should be freely available to the
federal government’s database, such as past crimes somebody was accused or
charged with, history of alcohol/drug abuse, etc, that could fit them into a criminal
profile. But if the courts should illegally outlaw tobacco tomorrow, I don’t
want my name in their list of “habitual tobacco users.” Ever seen Demolition Man?
